Beverly Jean Matthewson was born on October 1, 1961 in Chicago, IL to Frank Garth and Dora Friend. She transitioned from this life on January 12, 2024 to join her beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. Beverly was a beautiful soul who enjoyed helping others, her friends, her career, reality TV and shopping. She possessed an amazing voice that she used to praise God on every occasion she could. She was often a featured soloist for many church services.
Beverly accepted Christ at an early age and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until relocating to Grand Rapids, MI. Beverly graduated from Corliss High School in Chicago. Beverly also graduated from Robert Morris College in Chicago. She began her vocation as an office administrator with Ernst and Young, where she built the foundation of a strong professional career. Upon relocating to Grand Rapids, she united with Messiah Missionary Baptist Church where she met a beautiful group of Christians and also met and married Mansfield Matthewson. God blessed this marriage with two incredible sons Nuel Lamar And Jarrod Pierce. She was a dedicated loving wife and Mother. Beverly cherished her career with Ernst and Young, KPMG and especially BDO. She gained a plethora of professional accomplishments over the span of her career.
Beverly was a loving and caring Mother to Nuel and Jarrod, as well as a loving Grandmother to Lady Monroe. Beverly had several passions as mentioned above. She will certainly be missed by those who knew and loved her. However, we know that she is now rejoicing in her new home!
Beverly Matthewson leaves to celebrate her homegoing two Sons Nuel (Deannia) Friend of Grand Rapids, MI; Jarrod Matthewson of Lake Orion, MI; her Mother Dora Sanders on Grand Rapids, MI; one Granddaughter Lady Friend of Grand Rapids, MI, her Brother Lorenzo Garth of Chicago, IL and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her Father Frank Garth, her Brother Ronald Sanders, and loving family members Ida Mae Friend, Esther Friend and Oscar Friend.
