Carles Dell Chatman, fondly known as Cardell, was born on September 19, 1952, in Muskegon, MI, and peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer on October 2, 2024, in Grand Rapids, MI. His dedication to entrepreneurship was unparalleled. For over 50 years, he left an indelible mark in the fashion industry as the owner and operator of a high-end fashion apparel and accessories boutique. His keen eye for style and unique pieces, such as his signature suits and bold statement jewelry, made his boutique a sought-after destination for fashion enthusiasts.
Having served his country honorably in the United States Army (Infantry), Carles excelled in business and embodied a spirit of servant leadership throughout his life. His faith was not just a part of his life; it was his life. He was deeply passionate about sharing the Word of God with everyone he met, living by the motto, "Not my Will but God's Will." His faith was a guiding force, and he was known for his charismatic personality and generous sense of humor, which endeared him to many. His infectious laughter, quick wit, and kind words for everyone will be dearly missed.
Carles is survived by his three brothers, Levi J. Chatman Jr. of Muskegon, Danny M. Chatman of Phoenix, AZ, and Donald B. Chatman of Yonkers, NY; his sister, Deborah Chatman of Muskegon Heights; fourteen nieces and nephews; thirty-four great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. His love for his family was profound, and the memory of his parents, Levi J. Chatman Sr. and Thelma R. Chatman, and two sisters, Helen J. Chatman-Stovall and Shirley J. Chatman-Williams, were always in his heart. His family was his anchor, and his love for them was unwavering.
A loyal servant of God, Carles devoted himself to studying the Word and nurturing a faith community wherever he traveled. He actively participated in various houses of faith and was committed to playing worship music and helping others. Though his physical journey on Earth has concluded, Carles has embarked on an eternal and beautiful journey in the arms of the Lord. His passing has left a void in our community, but he has also left behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and service that will be cherished by all who knew him.
