Dawn Renee Emerich, age 49, of Wyoming, MI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Dawn was born in Racine, WI to overjoyed and loving parents Richard and JoAnn Emerich. When she was one year old, Dawn and her parents settled in Kentwood, Michigan. Dawn spent her school years forming life-long friendships, participating in clubs, and playing the trumpet in the East Kentwood High School band. Dawn’s love of music was her passion and her pastime. She traveled many miles and made a lifetime of memories and friends at concerts all over the country. She loved live music, especially when she was in the company of her friends and especially with her mom. Dawn loved her family and friends fiercely. She was always there to celebrate birthdays, welcome new babies, and celebrate new jobs, new homes or weddings. Dawn, having lost both of her parents early in her adult life, knew grief well. Despite her own heartbreak, Dawn knew the importance of loving hard and sharing that love with others. Often quietly and without fanfare, Dawn showed up for her family, friends and coworkers during times of stress, illness, heartbreak, or grief. She met others with understanding and endless empathy, showing her support through handwritten cards, food delivery, texts, childcare or even anonymous donations.
Her beloved pets, Rigby, Ozzy, London, Lyric, and Chloe were a central part of Dawn’s life and love. Her compassion for animals was not contained to just her own pets, Dawn was a passionate advocate for other animals through her support of rescue groups and years of volunteering at Crash’s Landing.
Dawn used her voice to amplify the voices of others, whether that was supporting small businesses, her family member's passions, or causes that were near and dear to her heart. Dawn leaves behind a legacy of compassion and advocacy.
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents Richard and JoAnn Emerich, and grandparents Donald and Josephine Velding and Harold and LaVerne Emerich. Dawn’s family and friends will miss her laughter, creative spirit, and limitless love for the rest of their lives. She will be lovingly remembered by her life partner Darron Christian, step-daughter Brenna, godsons Adam Herrera, Aidan Berkompas and Evan Velding, goddaughter Addy Tumolo, and so many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A celebration of life will be held on October 11, 2024 at St. Dominic Catholic Church 50 Bellevue St. SW, Wyoming, MI 49548. Visitation will be held at 2:00pm, service at 3:00pm.
