Reflection of Life
"A Time to Be Born"
Earl Tolbert Jr. (Peanut) was born May 25,1953 in Brighton, Tennessee to the
late Earl and Ola Mae Tolbert. He was the second born of five children.
"A Time to Live"
Earl Jr. graduated from Elliot High School of Brighton Tennessee in 1970. He
moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan soon after he graduated. He became
gainfully employed by Benteler Automotive where he worked many years
before moving into a position in the healthcare field. Earl worked as a
Certified Nurse's Assistant until his retirement in 2002. He had many fond
memories from his years of work at Clark Nursing Home.
In 1994 Earl Jr. became a member Of McSwain Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he
served faithfully until his health began to fail.
On October 22,1994 Earl married the love of his life, Emma. He gladly
became stepfather to Emma's children Tina and Lee Jr. and Emma proudly
became stepmom to Earl's children Twaina and Earl Williams. Earl and
Emma also adopted a son (Quartez). He took great pride in raising his children
and participated in their every endeavor. He made parenting look easy.
Earl Jr. loved to watch westerns and Family Feud; he loved to BBQ but his
greatest pastime joy was watching football with his friends and family.
"A Time of Homegoing"
Earl transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, September 21, 2017. He is
preceded in death by his parents Earl Sr. and Ola Mae Tolbert, One sister
Thelma Tolbert, two brothers Michael Payne and Billy Tolbert and two
daughters Twaina Beene and Laquanna Williams.
"A Time to Mourn"
The memory of Earl Jr. will be cherished by his wife, Emma, of 22 years. Two
sisters Evelyn Overall and Juanita Tolbert of Brighton, Tennessee. A daughter.
Rev. Tina Friend of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Three sons; Earl Dominique
Williams, Lee Friend of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Quartez Tolbert of
Benton Harbor, Michigan. His father-in-law and mother-in-law; Elder John &
Mary McSwain of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Four brothers-in-law; Johnney
McSwain, Eddie McSwain, Billy McSwain of Grand Rapids, Michigan and
Larry (Laurie) McSwain of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Two sisters-in-law; Ruth
(Haze) Webster and Mary Ann McSwain of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ten
grandchildren; Josiah and Talia Williams; Caleb, Joshua and Jonathan Roede.
Lee'Niya, Ny'Leaha, Christian, Trey' Lee, and Acilegna (Cee Cee) Friend of
Grand Rapids, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
