Edwin V. Lewis

Edwin Valentine Lewis was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 25, 1946 to Hosie and Rosie Lewis.  Edwin attended Creston High and graduated from Kelloggsville High School in 1966. He also attended Grand Rapids Junior College during the mid 1970’s.  In 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the 27th LTC Task Force and was Airborne.  At the end of his tour of duty in 1969, he was discharged with all honors as an outstanding soldier with a National Defense Service Medal. Upon leaving the military, he started working for Canonine Construction as an operating engineer. After working with heavy equipment, he worked at Keeler Brass, Wolverine Tractor and Equipment as a senior parts representative, and GHI  as an inventory control manager. Edwin also owned and ran Edwin’s Tree Service for many years.  Edwin was added to the body of Christ in 1975 and became a member of the Church of Christ located at 909 Franklin SE in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended the same congregation for approximately 30 years before placing his membership at the Southside congregation on 36th Street. He served as an elder of the Southside family for several years and taught classes for adults and high school students.  Edwin was preceded in death by his father, Hosie; mother, Rosie Etta; sisters, Clayia Walls, Martha Lewis and Karen Edmond; brothers, Arthur Lewis, Hosie Lewis (aka Junior) and Timothy Lewis.  He leaves to mourn his wife, Sandra (aka Love); son, Jason Lewis; daughter, Tiffany Lewis; granddaughters, Madison Brown and Natalie Bird; one grandson, Donovan Lewis; two sisters, Hosie Woods and Emma Stewart; two brothers, Oscar and Irvin Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  A Service of Celebration for Edwin will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 12 noon at Southside Church of Christ, 1304 – 36th St SE, Grand Rapids with visitation one hour prior to the service.
