Elizabeth Metcalf

Elizabeth Jane Metcalf was born on October 18th, 1945, in Shuqualak, Mississippi to Richard Lamb and Marcella Owens- Lamb.  Elizabeth was the 11th of 13 children.   She presently has four surviving siblings.  The surviving siblings are Clarence Lamb, Chester Lamb, Eric Lamb, Peggy Lamb and Vera Guilliam. She was preceded in death by both parents and the following siblings a Verna Lamb-Moore, Christine Lamb-Sudduth, Dorothy Lamb, and Betty Lamb-Nave.  Her deceased brothers are Richard Lamb, James Lamb, Edward Lamb, and Elbert Lamb.  Elizabeth graduated from Macon High School in Macon, Mississippi in 1963.  She attended Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  Upon graduation, she relocated to Muskegon Heights, Michigan and obtained her first job at Muskegon Heights Public Schools where she taught fourth grade.  At an early age Elizabeth accepted Christ at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Shuqualak, Mississippi.  She served as a secretary for the Sunday School, an usher, a member of the choir, and BTU.  She loved the lord and was a faithful member.  When she relocated to Muskegon, Michigan she joined Greater Harvest Baptist Church under Reverend Clayborn C. Casey.  Elizabeth was a member at Greater Harvest Baptist Church for 12 years.  In 1980, Elizabeth joined True Light Baptist Church under Pastor W.L. Patterson Sr. when relocating to Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She has been associated with True Light Baptist Church from 1980 until her home going.  In 1980, Elizabeth taught for Grand Rapids Public Schools until her retirement.  Elizabeth was an educator for more than 34 years.  Upon retirement from Grand Rapids Public Schools, she served as President for Grand Rapids Education Association for retired teachers.  She also was a past president for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chapter in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Elizabeth was united in matrimony with Andrew Metcalf Jr. in 1969.  From this union, three children were born Andrea LaRue Metcalf, Quin Edward Metcalf (deceased), and Andrew Lee Metcalf III.   She also has two cherished grandchildren, Cody Austin Metcalf and Myles Douglas Metcalf.

Her surviving brothers are Clarence and Chester (Vesta Marie) in Toledo, Ohio, Eric (Pat) in Shuqualak, Mississippi.  Her surviving sisters are Peggy Lamb in Tupelo, Mississippi and Vera Guilliam in Centerville, Illinois.

Surviving relatives in Muskegon, Michigan are sisters-in-law Brender Evans (Reverend Harry Evans), Lynell Sullivan (Ollie Sullivan), Ramona Metcalf, Denetrice Shyne-McGowan (Gil McGowan).

Special friends and relatives are Fosha Cage, Precious Wells, Linda Scott, Betty Jackson, Rose Harris-Cross, Betty Gross (Burton) Yvonne Hood, and Luzon Branham.  As well as a host of other relatives and friends.
