Errol Jimerson Life Story

Errol Gene "Kali" Jimerson, father, brother, uncle and friend battled a lengthy illness and fought a valiant fight before he passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family.

Kali was born April 6, 1948 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the union of the late John W. and Gladys Jimmerson. Being the "baby brother" of the family, Binky as he was affectionately called, always did things to stand out from the bunch. He was the family prankster and master storyteller of the clan. .If there was a family gathering and lots of laughter, you could be sure that Kali was in the middle of it with one of his fantastic tales!  And if the tale was grand enough, Kali would be sure to walk away with a few coins in his pocket.  Kali attended Grand Rapids Public Schools. As an adult, he moved around quite a bit, but most of his life was spent in Grand Rapids and California, with a short time living in Kalamazoo.

Although he didn't have any formal training, he was a talented self-taught contractor and painter.  He worked as a self-employed handy man most of his life and did restoration work on many historic buildings. He was His Own Man.

Kali is remembered for his big bright glassy eyes that always held a smile, his bubbly personality that really lit up a room, and his wisdom of the world that he loved sharing with young people when he was around them. Kali was energetic and never met a stranger. Everyone who knew him loved to be around him as he was a great conversationist and philosopher.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving daughter, Nikki Gill of Milwaukee; daughter, Carla McElwee of California, 7 sons, Errol Gene Scott of VIrginia, Kali, Chema, Jailaki, Kujala, Zawadi Strawther, Katrell Jimerson all of California.

3 sisters, Wanda "Pat" King (Edward) of Grand Rapids, Jerrie "Vernie" Blakely of Atlanta, GA and Barbara Calloway of Las Vegas, NV, 2 brothers, Ronald "Halisi" Jimmerson (Diane) of Grand Rapids and John "Jay" Jimmerson (Ruby) of Atlanta, GA, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Jimmerson, and 2 sisters Marian "Mickey" Crittenden and Debra Jimmerson.

The family is planning a Memorial Service to be held during the 4th of July weekend.
