James Bryant Life Story

James Jolon Bryant, affectionately known as "Doc," age 58, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, entered eternal rest on May 27, 2026. Born on November 16, 1967, to his loving mother, Mamie Luella Bryant, James was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, where he was surrounded by family, friends, and a community he deeply cherished throughout his life.

James received his education through the Michigan Public School System and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1985. Astonishingly intelligent and driven, he demonstrated remarkable grit and determination by returning to school in his fifties. He earned an Associate Degree from Grand Rapids Community College, graduating at the top of his class with a 4.0 GPA and earning placement on the Dean's List in 2022. He also completed a Computer Analytics program in 2023.

Throughout these accomplishments, James remained dedicated to his career, working for nearly thirty years with Kentwood Public Schools. He took great pride in helping build the Technology System for the Nutrition Services Department from the ground up, leaving a lasting impact through his work and commitment.

James was passionate about music and looked forward to dedicating more time to creating and producing it in retirement. Although he was a private person, those closest to him knew him as kind, generous, and sincere. Guided by the example of his grandfather, James never hesitated to help others and was often the first to step in when someone was in need. He also shared over thirteen loving years with his devoted girlfriend, Robyn Homan of Grand Rapids. His compassion, strength, and selfless nature will be remembered by all who loved him.

James was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Lee and Mamie Luella Lee.

James leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Mamie Luella Bryant; his sister, Tonequa Bryant; his beloved nephew, Jolon Collins; his beloved niece, Talayah DeCosey, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his step-sister, Anita Dean of Muskegon, Michigan; his devoted girlfriend; along with a host of extended family members, friends, coworkers, and all who were blessed to know and love him.

James will be remembered for his intelligence, quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering love for those closest to him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
