Reverend Joseph Carl Walker, Sr. was born, October 26,1953, to JC Walker and Josephine Hill Walker. He was affectionately known as “The Man with the big heart”. He never met a stranger… he was loved. He professed a hope and faith in Christ at an early age, He loved God with everything in him, as an outspoken Minister of the community he sang many songs! He was a Chaplin
Reverend Walker was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for forty-six years under the leadership of Pastor Erskin Robertson. He was a Chaplain of IDMA and a member of NAACP. He started a gospel group named The Golden Wings of Tupelo, Mississippi. He attended Carver High School in Tupelo Mississippi. He worked at Day-Brite Lighting, Hunter Sadler, and his passion was detailing cars with his dad. He moved his family to Grand Rapids Michigan in 1976. He was employed at Corduroy Rubber in 1977, as a press operator and was there for many years. He worked tirelessly for his family. In 1979, he started his own business detailing cars, following in the footsteps of his father. He named his business “Little Joe’s Detailing”.
Reverend Walker departed with his physical life, May 5, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife: Janice Walker; one daughter: Lakesha (Tony) Guajardo; one son: Joseph Cortez Walker Jr.; four granddaughters: Ashley, Essence, Janice, and Molinda; two grandsons: Tony and Joseph; three great grandbabies: Tony, Amora, and Omaree; his four sisters: Dorothy (Bishop Willie) Thornton, Katherine (Elder Clarence) Agnew, Mary Nell (Ernest) Arnold, and Betty Collier; his brothers: Richard (Shariah) Walker, and Robert (Bessie) Walker; a special friend: Elder Shannon Robbins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Reverend Joseph Carl Walker was a great friend to many and loved his family. He loved to gather his wife and grandkids and those moments will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, JC and Josephine Hill Walker and his grandson, Joshua Guajardo.
