OBITUARY

MARIAN HARRY-WHITFIELD

 

 Marian went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2023.  She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 3, 1953, to the proud parents of LV and Mary Noel. She was proceeded in death by her parents, LV Noel and  Mary Noel,  her brother, Jerome Noel.

 Marian is survived by her husband of 23 years, Charles V. Whitfield.  She leaves to mourn the following children, son Calvin Harry, daughter, Chandra Alford, five sisters, Janice Noel, (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Jacqueline Noel-Bowe (Detroit, Michigan), Elizabeth Noel- Williams, (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Margaret Burrell (Milwaukee, WI), Beverly and Jeffery Weatherall ( Overland, KS), and three grandchildren. Calvin Harry, Omarien Harry, and Kemiya Harry, Sister-in-law Dorothea Noel (Wiehl, Germany), two brother in laws, Freddie Johnson (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Robert  Johnson,(Wynn Arkansas), one sister-in-law, Lula Pitts ,(Woodbridge, VA), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marian was reared in the Church of God in Christ at an early age. She was an active member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Marian served on the Hospitality Committee, and participated with the International Bible Study Fellowship for the past seven years. Marian started her career with the United States Postal Services after graduating from Creston High School. Later, she accepted a position with General Motors Corporation as an Executive Secretary. Having served in this position for numerous years, she was later promoted to supervisor of production within the Corporation. In total, Marian dedicated her skills and professionalism to General Motors Corporation for over 47 years. In her dedicated employment to this company, she persistently demonstrated a work ethic that was both admired and respected by her supervisors and fellow employees. Throughout her life, Marian demonstrated her love for learning and pursuing higher education endeavors. She earned an associate degree from Davenport University, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Aquinas College, and a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix. Her commitment to education is a constant render to all about the need to pursue higher education opportunities. Marian had confidence and a strong will that allowed her to fight numerous health issues. She did this with grace, faith, and dignity, and rarely complained. She leaned more on her faith and no tolerance for negative thoughts. Marian strength and determination over the course of her battles filled all of us with hope and encouragement. Marian was stylish, elegant, and always dressed to impress. She and her husband Charles were world travelers. They ventured to such places as Germany, Paris, France, and Puerto Vallarta. She was a bright light and shining star to all of us. Marian will be sorely missed by all of us that loved her.

Special thanks and accolades go to longtime friends, Patricia Wimbley, Elizabeth Tucker and many other friends. Funeral Service will be held on: Monday March 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, 513 Henry SE. Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pastor Daniel Smith officiating.
