On October 5, 2024, Matilda (Broyles) Brandon was reunited with the Lord at the age of 90. Matilda was born on March 31, 1934, to Lacy and Zettie Broyles in Amory, Mississippi. She was one of 14 children born to the family. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1949.
In 1951, Matilda married Mack Brandon. She devoted her life to her husband and children. The Brandon’s became members of Buckley Street Chapel in 1957 and charter members of Grace Church in 1962. She was extremely active in the Food Pantry and served with her husband as custodian for almost 40 years. Mack and Matilda were married for 49 years until Mack’s death in 2000.
Matilda was honored to graduate from Central High School in 1972. She retired from Rapistan (Siemens Dematic) after 20 years, and after retirement she worked part-time at Sam’s Club. She enjoyed reading, bowling, traveling and roses.
Matilda was preceded in death by her husband Mack, parents and thirteen siblings.
She leaves four sons to cherish her memory: David (Cascelia), Joesph (Carmen), Matthew (Stephanie), James (Judy) Cattledge and special daughter Helen (Nathan) Broyles. Fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
