Robert Earl Phillips (aka "Smooth Earl") was born on December 15, 1947, in Abbeville, Mississippi, to Cecil and Malverda (Blakaley) Phillips.
Robert was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Willie C. Phillips, Henry Phillips, and his oldest sister Lila Couch.
Robert was a hardworking man, who worked two full time jobs at Oliver Machinery for 35 years and at New Hope Baptist Church for 33 years. He retired in 2013, but Robert was the type of man who couldn't sit down. In 2020, Robert worked for the Wyoming Michigan Public School System as a Crossing Guard at North Godwin Elementary Schools. He retired as a Crossing Guard in 2025, and he will truly be missed by the kids, the bus drivers, and teachers at the schools.
Robert loved cooking, baking cakes and pies, frying turkeys, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchild Izzacai. He would help anybody with painting and putting on roofs. Robert was loved by many people, and he loved his family, nieces, and nephews.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 52 years, Stephanie Diane Phillips, his two sons Robert Deshaunta, and Torrin K. Phillips, and only grandchild Izzacai K. Phillips, whom he loved dearly, his 2nd oldest surviving brother, Jack Phillips of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his sisters Ruthie Phillips of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Rachel Higgingbottom of Oxford, Mississippi, and nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Robert got his wings on August 2, 2025, and he will truly be missed by all...Servant Well Done.
