Sheila Marie Coleman was born November 2, 1962 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Lucille Sutton (nee Sherrod) and Bennie “Sonny” Burton.
Sheila attended Fairmount Elementary and Junior High school and Lockport High School in Lockport, Illinois. After graduating high school, she attended Job Corp in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she studied Culinary Arts.
Sheila was preceded in death by her father, stepfather, Otha Sr., sisters Patricia Ann Payton and Tonne Tucker; brother; Bennett Burton; her maternal grandparents: Rev. Reuben and Amy Sherrod; and paternal grandparents; Orlena and Prentiss Burton.
Sheila loved the Lord her God with all her heart and confessed Jesus as her savior. She grew up singing in the choir at Holy Cross M.B church in Joliet, Illinois under the leadership of Rev. Samuel Thigpen. She currently attended Hope Restored Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Brian Pippen.
Sheila was a vibrant soul with a passion for life. Known for her infectious smile and warm heart, she brought joy to everyone she met. Her love for music was undeniable, with Michael Jackson and Prince holding a special place in her heart. She often filled her home with their melodies, dancing and singing along with her favorite tunes.
A talented cook, Sheila loved preparing big meals for her family and friends. Her kitchen was a gathering place where laughter, love, and delicious food filled the air.
Sheila’s greatest joy came from spoiling her children and grandchildren. She showered them with love and support.
On August 6, 2024, surrounded by her family, Sheila’s earthly journey came to an end. Sheila leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with her children; Thomas Sherrod, Nateasha (Marlon) Richardson, LyKendra Sherrod, and Kelvin Coleman, Jr, all of Grand Rapids, Mi; Grandchildren; Quin'eaha, Ja'mya, Bre'asya, Veronica, N'Vayh, Harmoni, Ky'Ree, Jasiah, Ky'Rell and Zy'asya.; her Mother; Sisters, Mindy Ford of Beloit, Wi, Rita Burton of Homboult, TN, Janet Griffin of Rockford, IL, Pastor Marlena (Andre) Harris of Schaumburg, IL, , Shirley Ann Miggins of Canton, MS., Donna Jean of Humboldt, TN and Tonelle Robinson of Joliet, IL.; Brothers Anthony Payton of Grand Rapids, Mi, Donnie Payton of Gulfport, MS., Derek Ford of Beloit, WI, Otha (Beverly) Sutton and Steve (Juanita) Sutton,of Joliet, Illinois, Larry Fleming; Aunt Laura Foster of Beloit, WI,; good friends, Donna King, Monica Durham, Dorkea Dabney, Linda Pugh; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
