Terry Lynn Stokes, also known as “Country,” of Grand Rapids, Michigan, entered eternal rest on April 2, 2026. He was born on May 2, 1965, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, to Earnest and Gerlean Stokes.
Terry was a member of Oakdale Park Church, where he was a faithful member and gave his life to Christ. He received his degree in brick masonry and used that skill to help many people, working diligently on every project that came his way.
Terry was very good with his hands and was known for his kind spirit and strong work ethic. He was a good friend, brother, son, and father, with a heart full of grace, and his family and friends are grateful to have shared so many loving memories with him.
He shared close bonds with his family and friends, including a special friendship with Sylvester “Hook” Thomas and his close friend Jamie.
Terry was preceded in death by his two brothers, Terrence Stokes Sr. and Rickey Stokes.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Earnest and Gerlean Stokes of Southaven, Mississippi; five children, Michael Stokes and Mario Wilson, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Brian (Brandy) Wilson of Nashville, Tennessee, Kentrell (Emeri) Wilson of Houston, Texas, and Crystal Lynn Pue of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four stepchildren, Brandon Wilson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Christian Sims, Karshawn Brown, and Dominique Sims, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his devoted wife and close friend, Margaret Sims (Stokes) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one brother, Randall Stokes of Southaven, Mississippi; three sisters, Joan (Ronald) Simmons of Chicago, Illinois, Teyna (Derek) Palmoore of Memphis, Tennessee, and Calla Stokes of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his sisters-in-law, Janice Brown Stokes of Southaven, Mississippi, Valinda Stokes, Monica Terrell, and Tanisha James, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his brothers-in-law, Audrell Terrell and Ricky Sanders of Grand Rapids, Michigan; six grandchildren; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Though Terry is no longer with us, we find comfort in knowing he is now resting in peace. His life, love, and legacy will continue to shine through all who were blessed to know him.
