Walwin Malcom Life Story

Walwin Paul Malcolm was born on November 6, 1943 in Haddington, a district in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Bishop R. E. and Elect Lady lcylin Malcolm. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Flora Malcolm. Wally, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a lifelong member of the House of God and was baptized at an early age by his late father, Bishop R. E. Malcolm.
Wally grew up in Haddington, Hanover and attended the Watford Hill School System. He loved the game of cricket and was actually pretty good at it. If he were ever reported "missing" from home, chances are he would be found somewhere playing the game he loved so well. As a young man, Wally worked in construction alongside his father, specializing in brick-laying and other masonry work. He was the oldest child in the family. Needless to say, with a doting mother and four younger sisters, he was pretty spoiled - never learned (or even required to learn) how to cook a meal or wash the dishes as he rightfully should have done. He loved his mother dearly and she loved him right back - the ultimate "Mama's Boy".
Wally emigrated to the United States in 1971 and settled with his wife Flo in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he resided for many, many years. His two daughters, Norma and Carla, joined them later. He was a longtime employee of Betz Foundry Industries in Grand Rapids and always spoke proudly of his work making parts used in automobiles all over the United States and beyond. Wally was a kind-hearted and friendly man whose circle of friends in Grand Rapids ran very deep. Friends and acquaintances there affectionately called him "Bull", a name he grew to love and respond to for the rest of his life. He loved to hang out with his friends and share a good laugh, never quite bothering anyone, just having a good time.
After the passing of his beloved wife, Flo, Wally moved to New York to reside with his sister, Dean Harris and her family. Dean, a natural "caregiver" herself, became his "rock" in many ways. Her love and support for him and his devotion and gratitude to her were steadfast. Wally became a member of the House of God in Newburgh and worked in the capacity as deacon as long as he was able. He loved good food, good music, good dancing, nice clothes and pretty women - not necessarily in that order. He also loved his extended family deeply and always enquired about their well-being whether they were right around the corner or far away. He made many friends while living in New York just as he did in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Wally leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughters, Nom,a (Karl) Lawrence, Carla Toglan, grandchildren Gregory, Rawlings, Comfort, Morris and Scott, sisters Ulin Smith, Dean (Walter) Harris, Millicent (Walton) Robinson Jr.,Dorrie (Floyd) Linton, brother Delray Malcolm, a host of nieces, nephews, countless cousins, other relatives and friends and a loving church family in the United States, Canada and Jamaica. He will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in peace.
