Wilfred Gooch Life Story

Today, we celebrate the incredible life of my beloved husband, Wilfred Winston Gooch. To many of you, he was The Great Wil Gooch, Ace, or the Best Bass Hands in GR. But to me, he was so much more—my best friend, confidant, covering, partner in every sense of the word, and a devoted husband. He was also an extraordinary father to Celestá, Kaila, Kyrstin, and Wil Jr., and a phenomenal Papa to his cherished grandbaby, Ziyah.

Wilfred was a man of unmatched love and passion, deeply devoted to Jesus Christ, to men’s ministry, and to children. His love for the Lord shaped every aspect of his life and became a legacy we are proud to carry forward. In recent years, he made the courageous decision to align every aspect of his life with his faith. He chose to denounce what he viewed as distractions and idols, including his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, pledging his allegiance solely to the One True Living God. That decision only deepened my admiration and love for him. Together, we built a home rooted in faith, where Jesus Christ was and is at the center of all we did and all we believe.

Wilfred’s brilliance knew no bounds. As a mechanical engineer, his God-given talents were woven into innovations that will live on for generations. His works are embedded in military equipment, Presidential aircraft and submarines, Telsa’s, Fords, and even celebrity aircraft. Yet, Wil was never one to boast about his achievements. He let his works speak for themselves, and as his wife, I proudly boasted on his behalf every chance I got.

Beyond his technical genius, Wil’s humor, wisdom, and warm heart made him a joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He carried himself with humility and grace, lifting others up with his presence, whether through a kind word, a hearty laugh, or the joy he shared while playing music.

Wil’s impact on this world cannot be measured. The lives he touched, the wisdom he imparted, and the faith he lived so boldly will resonate far beyond his years with us. We grieve today, but we also celebrate the gift that he was—a man of integrity, brilliance, faith, and love.

As a family, we ask that you respect our request and not inquire about how we are doing. Instead, we humbly welcome your prayers, thoughts, and words of encouragement as we navigate this profound loss.

Wilfred Gooch, my love, you will always be my and your children’s hero. Your love, faith, and legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Until we meet again in glory, rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We love you, always and forever
